Gujarat Titans Defeat Mumbai Indians to Claim First IPL 2025 Victory

Gujarat Titans Defeat Mumbai Indians

Gujarat Titans (GT) registered their maiden victory in IPL 2025 with a dominant 36-run win over Mumbai Indians (MI). With this result, GT opened their account in the points table, while MI remained winless after two games.

📊 Live Scorecard

Sai Sudharsan Leads GT to a Strong Total

A stellar batting performance from Sai Sudharsan helped Gujarat Titans set a formidable total of 196 runs. Contributions from Shubman Gill (38) and Jos Buttler (39) further strengthened their innings. GT had a strong powerplay, accumulating 66 runs in the first six overs. Gill also achieved a milestone by completing 1,000 IPL runs at Ahmedabad, becoming the second-fastest player to reach this feat.

Mumbai's Struggles with the Bat

Mumbai Indians faced an uphill battle while chasing the target. Rohit Sharma fell victim to a brilliant delivery from Mohammed Siraj, continuing his rough patch. Suryakumar Yadav played an aggressive knock, scoring 45 runs, but his efforts were not enough to secure the win. Prasidh Krishna delivered a match-winning bowling performance, dismissing both Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. His disciplined bowling earned him the 'Man of the Match' award.

Hardik Pandya Highlights Fielding Errors

MI captain Hardik Pandya acknowledged that fielding mistakes cost his team crucial runs. Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, he said,

"There were errors, and we were not quite professional in the field – that cost us maybe 20-25 runs. They (GT openers) played smartly in the powerplay without taking high risks, which put us on the back foot. It's still early in the season, but our batters need to step up soon."

Upcoming Matches

Mumbai Indians will look to bounce back as they face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium on March 31. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their next fixture.
